Reference on the seminar for Severo-Zapadnyi Bank of Sberbank by Yevdokimov S.A., Director of Investment Lending and Project Finance Office

In 2008, Severo-Zapadniy Bank of Sberbank in cooperation with Alt-Invest Company developed a new format for training lending managers on investment projects evaluation, examination of business plans. In this course training consist of three phases:

• introductory methodological seminar in a lecture form on investment analysis. At the end of the seminar participants receive homework: examples of projects for which they have to develop business plans independently;
• after a month, which is necessary to test in practice the theoretical knowledge obtained at the first seminar, the participants gather for a workshop. The workshop is held in the computer class, where participants under the guidance of a consultant solve practical problems on projects evaluation;
• two months later, during which participants evaluate their examples of investment projects on their working places, there is a final, third stage of the training course — defense of the projects. Specialists of the Investment Lending and Project Financing Office are present at the defense. According to the presented projects lending managers are qualified.

This training course was successfully implemented in Severo-Zapadniy Bank since May till August 2008. Training was conducted by Alt-Invest consultants: Olga Senova and Alexander Osipovskiy.

Participants of the seminar liked the way of new information presentation. It is very important that during several months participants had an opportunity to consolidate their knowledge by studying independently and by doing test tasks.

The most interesting part of the course — is the defense of the project’s business plan. Calculations on the financial part of the business plan were done using Alt-Invest software product, which helped not only to study the program more thoroughly, but to get the actual practice of independent work. When defending their projects, bank managers could get acquainted with those projects which are implemented in various offices, as well as get acquainted with each other.

This helps to set interconnection between the offices which can later provide information exchange on the issues that managers of other departments have already encountered in their work. This will increase productivity and, most importantly, improve the quality of bank’s loan portfolio.

At the end of 2008 — beginning of 2009 a new cycle of training on this program for another group of managers is scheduled.
