The technique of calculations realized in Alt-Invest software product meets the recommendations of United Nations Industrial Development Organization and other international organizations. The materials developed by its use were accepted to consideration by the European Reconstruction and Development Bank, US AID, USA EximBank without any comments.
In the last edition of the Methodical recommendations on the estimation of the investment projects efficiency developed by the Ministry of Economics of the Russian Federation (the second edition; M 2000) the example of the project estimation is performed according to the standard of Alt-Invest table forms. Calculation of the example «is executed using the shell of one of the existing universal systems... The necessity of the calculation algorithm modification and rather simple verifiability of the computation tables dictate the reference to the open systems". The recommendations do not regulate the use of this or that computer calculations system (assuming the correctness of the algorithm incorporated in it).

Being correct in terms of international standards, Alt-Invest software is adapted for the system of accounting and formation of financial results accepted in Russia as well. This essentially brings the calculation method to the realities of Russia's economy.
Flexibility, openness and exclusive opportunities for adaptation allow the expert-analyst to create a unique model of the certain investment project on the basis of Alt-Invest program and to simulate its behavior in various conditions, according to the various scenarios.
Consideration of the transition economy specificity is one of most strong points of the Alt-Invest program. The user has an opportunity to perform calculations both in constants and in the current prices. For calculation in the current prices the special block is provided which allows the expert to model various ways of inflation processes development. Calculations can be performed both in monocurrency and in the two-currency mode to take into account the change of the hard currency exchange rate on the domestic market.
Alt-Invest contains the sensitivity analysis block. Selecting the varied parameters independently, the analyst can estimate a degree of the project efficiency dependence from the possible changes in market conditions, prices increase on necessary equipment, etc. This information will help the decision maker to determine project’s risk zones and to provide the corresponding actions.
Alt-Invest takes into account legislative features of the leasing operations, allows to reflect both financial and operating leasing.
The Alt-Invest user can perform the calculation of the project efficiency in terms of federal and municipal government. It is especially urgent for the projects applying for financial, organizational or strategic support of the state.
As a result of the work with Alt-Invest software an analyst receives a set of standard forms of financial reporting as well as indexes and factors, which describe the project exhaustingly and allow performing its qualitative analysis.
In particular, the model forms financial documents such as Income statement, Cash flow Statement, Balance Sheet. In addition, the set of financial ratios of liquidity, turnover, commercial margin, etc. are calculated. Tables of investments efficiency indexes include Simple and Discounted Pay-Back Periods, Internal Rate of Return and Net Present Value, the maximum interest rate on the loan, which may be paid by the project.
Using an openness of the model the user can independently generate non-standard tables, construct new diagrams, calculate any additional indexes. Results of calculations can be printed both in Russian and in English.
Alt-Invest software represents the complete set of the interconnected spreadsheets in the Microsoft Excel environment. Such way of realization allows an expert to study all the calculation formulas, to track the logic of the results formation from initial data, to be guided freely in the technique and calculation tables. All this, certainly, promotes professional growth of the users.
Alt-Invest software was used for the estimation of investment projects and preparation of documents for investment competitions at the majority of the leading enterprises of pulp and paper sector in Russia. The documents developed for Syktyvkar and Kotlas industrial complexes, passed a successful examination in American EximBank.
For the first time in practice UNIDO experts used Alt-Invest software to analyze investment projects while implementing the project at LOMO. In 1997 on UNIDO request ALT firm developed the Russian-language version of the COMFAR software product for the investment efficiency estimation.
With the help of the system, at KAMAZ JSC they prepared business plans for the projects of a new family heavy-duty lorries production - KAMAZ 6520; release of KAMAZ-5256 city bus; business plan for the project on export moulding manufacture development at KAMAZ Moulding factory; and also the factory’s business plans for 1996 and 1997.
GAZ JSC experts used Alt-Invest to develop a business plan for the project of the new car model - Volga 3110 release, financed by the European Reconstruction and Development Bank, Avtobank and Austrian Varbyrg bank.
Alt-Invest was applied at Kirovsky Zavod JSC to calculate the project of the first St.-Petersburg’s big class bus manufacture.
Moskabelmet JSC used Alt-Invest software to develop the investment plan which resulted in the establishment of joint venture with Swedish Asea Brown Bovery (ABB). |
